True North

GW took me away for the weekend at the beginning of the month to celebrate my birthday and he invited some of our nearest and dearest friends to join us. We spent an entire day and evening together. At one point I realized that my cell phone hadn’t needed to be on a charger at all that day. It didn’t matter what was going on in social media land. We were living life out loud. Together and in the moment. And in the moments, I realized  that I have exactly who wants to be in my life walking along side of me through the good, the not so good, laughter, tears and more laughter.

Through much insistence, I asked that my gift be a gift of presence not presents. Lish doesn’t listen very well. First we had an exchange in Crate & Barrel where she insisted on buying the two new wine glasses I had in my hand. Yes, she won.  Later, we ran into each other after I went back to the room to freshen up and to drop off my new wine glasses. We sat outside of Homage and she handed me a black bag with an Alex And Ani bracelet inside. She explained to me that our true North are the people in our lives who count. We have may acquaintances and people whom have been in and out of our lives but that the ones who are there and are completely there are our true North like the compass on my new bracelet. Which she purchased one for herself, Morgan and Ann. The card inside states:

COMPASS
OBJECTIVE / DIRECTION / TRANSITION
An instrumental aid, a compass provides guidance and navigation through life’s unexpected twists and turns. Each cardinal direction has a significant meaning. North represents home and wisdom. South embodies passion and creation. East signifies new beginnings and inspiration. West symbolizes introspections and reflection. “Do life” and any course you follow will be fruitful.

I am listening to God’s cues. Those little talks you have within your gut. The hair standing up on the back of your neck awakenings. The whispers in the wind. My eyes have opened. My ears are listening. My senses heightened.

Life takes twists and turns and when it straightens out and those still walking along side of you that didn’t detour in the curves, those are your True North people. They are home. They are wisdom. They are who are passionate about you and and not what you can do for them. So I am looking East at new beginnings and a whole lot of inspiration. And as I look West, I reflect on good times and ah ha moments. Oh those ah ha moments…..

My Mom has always said when it comes to situations don’t push it. If it is meant to be it will be. When you push, you aren’t listening to God’s cues.

I have a love/hate relationship with Facebook. However, if you watch and pay attention, sometimes, just sometimes, you learn a lot because what you see is what you truly get. And at times you just can’t look away and just sit and shake your head and laugh out loud.

I hope you find your True North people in your life. Listen to the cues. Look ahead and not back. You will be much happier at the end of the day.

XOXO
