Starts with a Coffee ☕️ & Ends with a Wine 🥂

What are your morning rituals? What does the first hour of your day look like?

People think that GW and I are crazy for getting up as early as we do – even on our days off – which can be anywhere from 3:30 a.m. to 3:45 a.m. Why do we get up that early? My response is – why not?

GW prepares the coffee pot for us the night before and it is set to begin brewing at 3:15 a.m. I was never a coffee drinker until a few summers ago while on a girls trip to Deep Creek, Maryland. Now, GW and I begin our days together sitting in the living room with a small lamp and our little dog, COAL. No television. Just coffee and conversations. Some mornings we just sit in silence. But, we are together. Sometimes, I will doze off to sleep. And while my coffee will need to be reheated, it can be the best sleep I’ve had all night. It’s like falling asleep in the car on a trip. Those are some of the best naps ever. Even though I should be on the treadmill during this time, I will take my slow mornings with my GW and COAL.

During my school year, my required arrival time is 7:30 a.m. I get there at 7:00 a.m. I do not like the feeling of being rushed. And, in my line of work – feeling rushed is easily done. I am an Administrative Professional in Career Technical Education. I like being prepared to hit the ground running as soon as my students begin to arrive. I want to be able to give them my best and greet them with a smile and give them my full attention as they arrive on campus.

GW doesn’t have to be at work until 5:30 a.m. yet he leaves the house at 4:30 a.m. so he can hit the ground running as well when his employees arrive.
Remember – COAL KEEPS THE LIGHTS ON.

As the warmer weather approaches, GW will be putting out my amazing reclining chairs back on the front porch that my brother and sister-in-law bought me for my birthday last year. Those are where we will sit, drink coffee, have conversations and listen to God’s creatures stirring as the dawn slowly approaches.

As this prompt asks ~ What are your morning rituals? What does the first hour of your day look like? ~ And, my title is ~ Starts with a Coffee ☕️ & Ends with a Wine 🥂 ~ GW and I begin our days together over coffee and conversations and we enjoy winding down our evenings on the front porch (when it is warm) with a cocktail and conversations talking about our days, discussing the days ahead and planning our future. And, sometimes we end our day like it began. Sitting in silence. But, we are together. I appreciate the slow evenings with my GW and COAL on The One Four One. Sitting together, enjoying a night cap conversing with one another while listening to God’s creatures settling as the day slowly turns to night.
